Sounds great - good to hear that Chelsford have the right idea ! It makes such a difference when you feel welcome, doesnt it ? Would be interested to know who the mediums were - any idea ?

I have read this thread with a lot of interest. I first went to an SNU church in Dundee, where no one spoke and it wasnt very welcoming. My reason for attending was that i had recieved a private reading from a wonderful medium who said i had a natural ability in mediumship. I kept attending this church for a few weeks and then took the courage to enquire about if they had a development circle. I appraoched someone that i thought looked friendly enough and i was redirected to the church leader, who when i asked about a cirlce, told me in a rather abrupt manner, who told you, you are pychic or can communicte with spirits? When i told her who i had my reading done by the mediums responce was. you dont tell me your pyschic or that, i will tell you! I was then offered the chance to demonstrate my ability if i came back a few weeks later and did some pyschometry. I continued attending this church for a few weeks and in one of the weeks the church leader stood up and asked in an unfriendly tone, do we have anybody here willing to try pyschometry? As i went to raise my hand someones phone rung the meduim looked at me and then turned to the person with the phoen and said turn that off, they then turned to me and said don't bother it doesn't matter. Before i went that night i had asked spirit to give me a sign to tell me if i hadn't to do it. I guess that was it. But even more intresting was in my private reading i was told their would be a person who would test me and i hadnt to rise to it and i'd know that it was a test and i just had to ask spirit for the answer. At this point people still hadn't spoke to me. I atteneded a trance evening at the same church months later and during the demonstration i got to ask a question and i asked if everyone had the ability to communicate with spirit. I was told that i had a deep level of clairvoyance that i dont use to my full ability and was told that everyone had the ability. At the end of the demonstration the medium who was demonstrating addressed the audience and then asked who was told they had a deep level of clairvoaynace and another person directed them to me. This medium then proceeded to tell the whole audience there was no body that they wouldnt take into thier cirlce, then they looked at me and said even if i had to beat it into them. I felt at this point awkward as everyone beside me then looked at me, thinking that i had something wrong. Needless to say this was the last time i went to that church.

After the expeience of the pyschomety incident I then went to another church , which was in another town, where it was friendly and welcoming and was told i would get my development either there or another church that they suggested I go to. I ended up going to that the other oneand within a week of going was accepted in to their closed circle. I am still at that church and it is one of the most friendlest ones i have been too. I still also go to the other church in the other town. I get to work on platform in both of them and havent really experienced anything nasty as both churches do not like politics or bitching.

However on one occassion i was on the recieving end of a mediums sharp tongue. I had given a message of platform and this meduim flew into a torrid of abuse telling me i wasnt a full medium and that i was just a trainee and i shouldnt give messages of platform and how dare i do that and then as i went to continue to give what i had received, i felt it was too private to give on a platfrom which i why i gave it off platform, this medium turned on me again and the person i was giving the message turned around and told them, the message is for me and it is up to me wither i want to hear it or not, please do not interefere. Not long after that, the medium left the church. Her comments were hurtful as up till that moment they had been nothing but helpful and friendly. The Mediums comments got me thinking about the difference between a trainee and a full medium and how some people place a title of great importance to give themselves authority and belittle people. For me this has led me to take it down to the bare bone, a medium to me is someone who communicates with spirit and can pass on a message to a person giving evidence of survival of life after death and to show that spirit are still present in everyday life. It doesnt matter if you are at the start of the journey of becoming a medium or have been a medium for years as we are always learning from spirit. If you can give a message and the person you are giving the message to accepts the information you are giving and can recognise the spirit you are communicating with then as a medium you have done your job.

I myself sit in two circles and have been developing for nearly two years and yes I would acknowledge that I am only at the begining of my spiritual journey but i have come so far with the help of spirit and two great teachers who have given me the opportunity to develop. I also noticed a comment on this thread about teachers using certain methods or if i dont think thats right then its not, but as people we have to find our own way of thinking, for me sitting in circle is not only about developing your skills in mediumship but about sharing ideas and allowing people to also from their own opinions of the spirit world and the spiritualist movement and the philosiphy of spiritualism

I would also agree that there is a lot of jealousy in this movement and I have experienced this first hand. Within 6 months of being in this movement i organised a charity evening of clairvoyance which was a sucess and this lead me to orgainsing another one. After my second one it got back to me that there were some fully fledged mediums who felt that i should leave these things to them as i was just a trainee and just starting on my development. I was told by one medium to conitune the work i was doing and to ignore these comments as people were just jealous that i had come along so quickly in such a short time.

I have had many messages from mediums about my development and some people have told me im running before i can walk, but i question them saying i am led to beleive that spirit decide how fast we develop and i am not pushing myself but going at the rate spirit want me to develop, and they can not answer. However i have also been told not to let people put me in a box and try to stop me from moving forward.

Your centre sounds like the kind of centre i would like to have one day. I belive that we should work in love light and be non judgmental and not attach labels to people as we should all have free will and the opportunity to work for spirit no matter at what level you are at.

Im sorry i have gone off the topic at some points but i feel that there are some organisations such as snu that seek to promote spiritualism but within some of their churches the people do not adopt a spiritual way of thinking and liviing - there is more to being a spiritualist medium that giving messages from the world of spirit.

Thanks for your lovely comments Christina. We do work so hard to make the Haven what it is, and Im proud of the result. However, its lovely to get feedback from people, especially mediums, and to hear your views.

In my opinion SPIRITUALISM is no religion but simply an awareness that there is LIFE beyond the veil and souls who have departed from the physichal (lots of them) are still attached to this material life for whatever the reasons. Perhaps, it's our duty to help them cross over. I am quite sure you'll succeed. Please don't be parochial and ritualist, don't charge for any services (what's being received for free for free must be given). No dark rooms, no fancy dressups. Spirits don't really care about them. Love, understanding and compassion are much required. Lots of Love. Mario.

Jay works for spirit and she donates her free time to spirit...Jay will have to charge for services how would she be able to donate to charity? Yes the gift is given freely but the hall isnt theres the rent to pay for and other costs...love and light Christina

I live in Bristol and have just started on a journey of self discovery. I attended a church on two occassions and no one spoke to me at all. I did feel really uncomfortable as one lady I was sat by was talking to her friends in the row behind me but no one even so much as smiled in my direction. I was planning to pluck up the courage to ask if I could attend their awareness open circle in the hope they would then start to accept me but having read some of these comments I am now scared to try. I dont have any skills but I really feel drawn to explore if I have any gifts, I especially feel that healing is what I am needing to do.
Is there any churches or centres in Bristol, I live on the south side that would extend the hand of friendship to me and help me to grow spiritually.

The Open Arms Spiritual Haven’s 1st Birthday

Spirits were flying high for the members of the Open Arms Spiritual Haven as they celebrated their 1st birthday on Sunday 14th June. With a glass of champagne in one hand and a slice of cake in the other, visitors from across the borough were treated to an extra special evening of spiritualism and relaxation. Therapists, card readers, clairvoyants and high profile medium Christina Green were all on hand at the Belmont Village Hall to create a truly unforgettable spiritual experience for every guest.

Being a new visitor to the Haven, I was astounded by the strong rapport between every member. During the evening I began to talk to fellow guests, Debbie and Tracey. Being regular visitors to the Spiritual Haven, they expressed nothing but appreciation to this charity-based organisation and the exceptional services that it offers every Sunday. Both agreed that the Spiritual Haven is incredibly friendly and tranquil and is a great place to retreat from the chaos of their busy lives and explore their spirituality.

Jay Gage, leading clairvoyant in the Open Arms Spiritual Haven, was incredibly proud of everyone involved and was overwhelmed by how successful their first year had been. As she states; ‘Tonight is a little more razzmatazz than normal because it is our birthday and we want to celebrate everything that we have achieved over the past year!’ In addition to the night’s celebration, the Open Arms Spiritual Centre, which regularly donates money to the MIND and SERRIC charities, had a little extra donation of £200 to present to the Walter Boyce Centre charity.
